PERU OCCUPATION COVERS

3N1 Bisect Puno to Arequipa paying the 5c 1/2 ounce letter rate to 2 towns on the same rail line.  The 10c was the loest denomination available and bisect had to be used.  Letter (no inclued indicates a posting of 1881.  Usage of this revenue on cover is rare since it was used onl in the departments of the South and only for a short period of time.  PHOTO  $500

3N7 Bisect The small village of Ayaviri is located some 100 miles north of Puno and soon ran out of frankage materials and used the revenues available from Arequipa.  This 10 centavo carmine has no overprint which indicates it was used ine arely 1883.  It is address to Arequipa on the same rail line and thus, needed only 5 centavos, which is satisfied with the bisected 10 centavo.  $ 600  PHOTO

3N9  Ayaviri is a small village in eastern Peru.  Posted in the province of Puno, this bisected 10 centavo carmine was used to pay the 5 centavo internal rate.  Has the blue double circle overprint of Arequipa instead of the normal black Puno circle.  Very scarce usage of this provisional, perhaps unique  $750  PHOTO

3N13 violet handstamp Bisected on local cover within Arequipa, bisect pays 2c intracity rate.  Cover has a few tears on the face, but is very scarce  PHOTO   $250.

3N22  This was the last issue of the Departments of the South and is extremely rare on cover.  This mourning letter was posted in 1886 in Arequipa to an address within the city.  The 5c franking overpays the 2c intracity rate at the time.  PHOTO  $750.

7N1 Type  Stampless cover from Chiclayo to Trujillo with oval "FRANCA" handstamp in violet, used when no stamps were available.  The small AP in the upper right hand corner is the expertising mark of Angel Puppo, the foremost Peruvian experct in philately of the War of the Pacific  PHOTO  $500

15N1a bisect Puno to Arequipa.  Rail line rate of 5c paid with bisect of the 10c stamp.  Extremely rare usage  PHOTO  $750.

ETEN 1883 Stampless--Eten is the seaport in District #5.  This cover, posted in Chiclayo in October 1883 has a Oct. 14, 1883 Lima receiving mark, was carried on the Eten rail line for sea transport to Lima.  No stamps were available, so the manuscript "por falta de estampillas" and the postmaster's signature were added.  Cover also carries ETEN Franca in green.  Roughly opened but a very rare item.  PHOTO  $400.

TARMA 1885 Stampless --When no stamps were available after the War of the Pacific, postal regulation required that the postmaster's signature and the phrase "franca por falta de estampillas" be handwritten onto the envelope.  Posted January 1885 using Tarma field of dots cancel.
